Graphic Quilts of the 20th Century by Tara Miller
This presentation is packed with graphic, visually stunning quilts from the whole of the 20th century. Many of these have a surprisingly modern aesthetic! Throughout the conversation, we’ll put these quilts in context: historically, socially, artistically. We’ll explore some of our connections with the past that inform us, inspire us, and drive us in the art and practice of quilt making today. www.quiltdistrict.com

March 9 Virtual Lecture
Pagtinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island, Philippines by Dana Jones
You’ll be transported to a tiny island — just 13 acres — in the central Philippines as you enjoy images and stories of the colorful quilts and the more than 100 quiltmakers of Caohagan Island. You’ll see photos of more than 50 of these handmade, one-of-a-kind quilts plus be introduced to the unique techniques developed by these quiltmakers whose tools are simply fabric and scissors, needle and thread. I spent more than a month on the island, quilted with the residents, went fabric shopping with them on nearby Cebu Island, and snorkeled the reef that surrounds Caohagan. Those who view the quilts come away smiling, inspired by the creativity of these women and men. www.danajonesquilts.com

Before and After: Repeating Patterns by Timna Tarr
Where do ideas come from? For Timna, much of her work is inspired by antique and family quilts. In this lecture she will show the utilitarian quilts from her life, and how they planted the seeds that became the contemporary works that she now creates.
