Thoroughly Modern Quilting
Quilting is the third dimension that we add to our quilts. The length and the width of the quilt are a done deal by the time we get to this final design step, so our job here is to add the third dimension of depth and to do so in a way that will enhance the quilt. Regardless of the method of construction of the quilt top; pieced, appliqué, or a combination of the two, our design job in this last step is to enhance, enhance, enhance.
But where do we go to for inspiration of how to enhance our quilt? Inspiration is everywhere! Look at carpet designs, look at the architectural detail on building, look at your Kleenex™ box. And once you’ve trained your eye to see the quilting designs, notice how the designs are arranged. Notice that a geometric design is positioned next to a curvilinear design, a straight line next to a floral motif. This design arrangement allows each area of design to have its own presence; the contrast between these design formats allows each to be seen and noticed. Just what you want your quilting to do! Flying Colors Trunk Show
Timna is known for making fun, colorful, award-winning quilts. Join her for a trunk show of her quilting journey. She talks about her design and color choices, as well as the personal stories behind the quilts.
“My work is about color and small compositions. Each block in a quilt is made as its own element, independent of the other blocks. After all of the blocks are constructed, my goal is to arrange the small compositions to play off each other and work together to create a larger whole. What keeps me engaged is watching how the project changes and transforms with the addition of each color and texture.
The resulting quilts are contemporary works, set in this time and place, which reference the rich tradition of quilt making.”

Linsee Patris in the owner of The Quilt Spot, Midland Park, NJ.
Tips, trick and tidbits from a quilt shop owner
Linsee is the owner & operator of The Quilt Spot. Her passion for sewing started with her mother Carla and they have shared a world of sewing and quilts since Linsee was a toddler. Linsee grew up in a home filled with quilting. As a child, she didn't understand her mom's passion for sewing but her early exposure must have stuck with her...because she went on to major in apparel design in college. Now, with small children of her own, the time to create with fabric and thread is nestled in between soccer games and swim lessons.
With a successful career in the fashion industry, Linsee has always maintained her love of creating. Stitching away behind the scenes, you can follow Linsee along her journey keeping this art alive.
